To fix it I had to go to My Xbox -> System Settings -> Console Settings -> Remote Control. I had to change it from "Both Remotes" to "Xbox 360 Media Remote." It's on "Both Remotes" by default and doesn't work with this remote at all. I'm giving it 3 Stars because while I was able to eventually make it work, there were no instructions given and even searching online it was difficult to find the answer. After I solved the issue I watched a movie in media center and it performs fine, I have no issues with the five or six feet distance from my couch like others have reported (I've read aftermarket faceplates may pose problems so it's something to keep in mind.) It does not come as pictured in a pre-formed plastic retail package, it simply came in a green bag with batteries with no written material. Amazon customer service (chat option) was excellent.
